I’ve assembled a list of my top 5 best locations for maternity photos in Rochester NY.

I chose them based on my own experience with the terrain, the lighting, their accessibility during different seasons, and of course, how the photos turn out (the most important indicator)! Of all of the photoshoot locations in Rochester NY, these are my suggestions with a few notes and caveats for different seasons. If you have any tips or feedback, add them to the comments section. I’m open to exploring!

(Don’t miss my bonus list at the end plus a special offer for the super adventurous souls!)

Best Locations for Maternity Photos in Rochester NY

In a Creek

Literally the most magical place to celebrate the journey to Motherhood and Mother Nature in one session. There are numerous creeks located around the Finger Lakes. Some of the best ones, in my opinion, are located around Naples, NY on the sound end of Canandaigua Lake.

Highland Park

A sprawling and hilly botanical park right in the city of Rochester. I call this park “a procession of flowers” because the park is so thoughtfully and intentionally planted with flowers that bloom from March all the way through October. In January and February, you can almost count on a winter wonderland straight out of a postcard. You literally can’t go wrong with photos at this park no matter what time of year.

You also have the option of photos inside Highland Park’s Lamberton Conservatory, an indoor botanical garden in a historic greenhouse. We can even reserve a time to have the Conservatory to ourselves, which I definitely something I recommend doing!

Durand Eastman Beach Rochester NY

Durand Eastman Beach at Sunset June 2024

This location can be busy during the Summer, especially on the weekends. But sometimes you get really lucky and you’ll catch the kind of sunset that you just want to tell everyone about afterwards, it was that good! I’ve learned that this location can be tricky depending on the time of year and the direction of the sun. The sun sets behind the trees for most of the year, so don’t expect a sunset over Lake Ontario every night. But the light and the setting are still lovely during the Fall and the Spring if you’re up for photo session at sunrise.

Have you ever noticed that May-September in the Finger Lakes is like a procession of flowers (and little bit like heaven)? From pastoral farms, to city parks, to the fields of wildflowers you happen upon when you’re wandering a trail. Where there’s a little flexibility and an adventurous spirit, we can find flowers!

In Your Home | Lifestyle Maternity Session

Is home your most favorite place, like me? I can’t recommend enough maternity photos at home. Just cozying up in bed, or in the nursery, we’ll gravitate towards the window that gets the best light. Your home doesn’t need to be picture perfect. The more familiar and cozy it feels to you, the better.
