It’s a perfectly reasonable question! Maternity photos are an investment, no doubt about it. Perhaps I’m a bit biased, but hiring a professional maternity photographer is definitely worth it.
With everything else you have going on, all the change, and trying to prepare for the baby’s arrival during pregnancy, professional maternity photos can be overlooked and undervalued as an important part of this journey.
Are maternity photos worth it? I’m here to share some insights from my experience and some past clients who’ve shared their reasons why maternity photos were worth it to them.

Being pregnant often represents a duality: on one hand you’re growing a human and it’s really hard and on the other hand, you’ve never been more grateful to your body.
You might not be loving the changes to your body, have pregnancy-induced physical limitations, lack of energy, morning sickness, etc. No matter how you’re feeling, having professionally taken pictures helps to ground you in the profound gratitude that you have for your birthing body and will serve as a sentimental reminder of this transition that you’re in.
Celebrating the changing body with maternity photography can be an incredibly empowering experience and can help connect you to your divine feminine.
One of my past clients told me once that the reason they wanted maternity photos done was because they wanted to show their daughter that pregnant bodies and being a mother is powerful and important. They wanted to demonstrate to her that pregnant bodies are beautiful and worth celebrating, not hiding. This really struck me because society tells us differently and too many women go through their pregnancy ashamed of the changes their bodies are going through.
